I wanted to play D&D with my kids for a long time, and found Obojima the perfect start! It is also nice to read the book in the evenings, and get to know the world better. So happy the real books are in pre-order again!
OMG! Make more of this! Also, for good cleric ideas, look into shinto priests and priestess, or Onmyodo/onmyuji.
Clerics don't need a deity. Look into eastern religions like Shinto or Budhism. No gods needed. They cultivate their own spiritual power like how a monk cultivates body and mind. The source of their power is the spiritual energy that flows through Obojima like a river. They work to hone their spiritual connection so as to become closer to pluse of the leylines.
They can draw power from their spiritual attunement to the spiritual energy that pervades Obojima. Not sentient power, but geomantic of preffered. They can focus on purification of corruption and stagnancy, or be spirit mediums like mentioned in the lore. Domain Spirit or Domain Purification. Tools like fans, bells, talisman, shikigami, scrolls, masakai wands, bronze mirrors, and Kyudo (big bows, traditional Japanese style archery). Think Kikiyo or Kagome from inuyasha or Rei Hino of Sailor Moon.
The artwork is beautiful, and the setting is really interesting to read about. The 2024 update has been implemented thoroughly, and as far as I know, nothing has been left out.
Great work—creative and charming spells, fun subclasses, and feats... All in all, I highly recommend it.
I really like the idea of a more whimsical Dnd world, and this book really captures it. I don't see as much of the Legend of Zelda inspiration, but I see the Ghibli inspiration. It's a really fun world, and the adventure hooks are a nice touch for less experienced DMs.
Love the book, planning on running a few one-shots to start. The art is phenomenal. But I wish the pdf was formated in a way that was more accessible for reading as a book on my screen reader. Two pages are as one and I can’t flip seemlessly, I have to zoom in lot to read one page and im constantly losing my place.
This book is a treasure trove of great worldbuilding and additional mechanics to turn your campaign into leisure fantasy. I adore the ghibli-inspired campaign setting and am beyond excited to run a campaign using this supplement!! Every time I browse through it I get struck with new inspiration and ideas for how to interpret the content contained in Obojima
The PDF file is filled with exciting new subclasses that I'm really wanting to try out, especially the Oath of the River Paladin and the Lantern Patron Warlock, although it would be cool if you could have a playable Spirit ancestry which made me homebrew one of my own for right now which is barebones in terms of uniqueness. I'm still waiting on my physical hard cover book to be delivered though.
Great resource with both a vast array of roleplay and mechanical content. Though, some of the art and concepts are a bit too on the nose when it comes to imitating Ghibli or Breath of the Wild.
I bought the PDF Version and I love it! The amount of details is phenomenal. Everything feels like it was written with passion and a specific idea in mind. From start to finish just a wonderful piece of art!
